RFID - Radio Frequency IDentification

A proven technology that is used to track items via wireless technology. One could say that RFID is the next generation of Bar Code, as it is being used for the same types of applications. Actual transmitters, whether active or passive, are now available in stick on labels that look no different than other paper labels, and can be afficed to pallets, cases, or totes the same as any other label. RFID Journal defines RFID as "A method of identifying unique items using radio waves." Typically, a reader communicates with a tag, which holds digital information in a microchip. But there are chipless forms of RFID tags that use material to reflect back a portion of the radio waves beamed at them.
