Data Collection

Data collection, or data acquisition, is the first step in understanding processes and process control and improvement. Without data it is just and opinion; and if the data is not accurate, then why bother? Data Collection has to be:
While these may seem like platitudes, they are very important. A shortcoming in any of these criteria may result in bad data; and bad data is worse than no data! QIC has been designing data collection systems since its inception. Whether the data is SPC, OEE, process monitoring, or other MES data, we use a single configurable data collection engine, so that operators see one simple common interface. This way, once they know how to collect one piece of data, they know how to collect any piece of data. Training takes a matter of minutes, and validation of the data is very extensive behind the scenes. Alarms and feedback are user configurable by data type or characteristic, and can range from a simple sound or visual, to sending emails, telephone calls, pages or shutting down the line. From a hardware perspective, QIC monitors available fixed and portable technologies and can offer its clients a wide range of solutions tailored to specific environments, from office conditions to NEMA 4, 4X, and explosion proof.
