Formula Management

Ensuring that our products are produced to the right recipe and achieving the right specifications, is not only required to be compliant with various business practices such as ISO 9000, Q1, TS, QS etc., it is also essential to producing consistent and high quality product.

When ingredients need to change - whether it is because the ingredient is in short supply, a regulator has found it to be dangerous and it will be banned or severely limited in its use, it has fallen out of favour with consumers, or it is just too expensive – you need to respond proactively to achieve least cost/ best quality products.

When a marketing opportunity presents itself – a new trend like zero trans fats, cholesterol free, low carb, nut free – you need to know if you can legally make the claim and whether you can quickly generate versions of your formulae that comply.   When new ingredients come available that can dramatically affect your costs, quality, or both, you need to take advantage of them as soon as possible.

When the regulator in a country where your product is sold makes another change to the labeling regulations, or format – you need to comply.  When you package the same or similar products under private labels – you need to manage the formulations.  When specific markets demand small changes in formula, you need to respond.  If you use co packers, you need to ensure that they know what they need to know to produce your product properly.

And all of this while you ensure that the correct formulations and procedures are used throughout the enterprise.  Not to mention that you are always on the process of continually improving them.

A daunting task without the assistance of a formula management solution.

The savings from being able to achieve cost reduction by ingredient substitution; or the increased profits from being first in a lucrative new market segment can recover the costs of implementation in a very short period of time.  You also achieve regulatory compliance with labeling claims, and the automatic calculation of nutritional properties, and the creation of the label and ingredients statement as a byproduct!

Many companies have 4 or 5 independent systems to handle these requirements.  Integration between them is often limited resulting in a duplication of efforts.  Other organizations have built intricate systems of linked spreadsheets – some so intricate that retrieval of a single formula can take upwards of 30 minutes.
