Solution Summary
ProductVision™ Formula Management Solution
Calculating
the nutritional properties of a formula and transferring that data to a label
format; ensuring that the label format complies with current regulatory
requirements; and having the data to back up any claims you may want to make is
not terribly complex, but does take superb information and tedious attention to
detail. And the odds are pretty good
that you will have to adjust that label to comply with regulations or languages
in other jurisdictions in which your product is sold.
In
some cases, just making a change to the label as simple as changing spelling
can cost significant dollars if a third party is managing your labels for
you. You probably have the Genesis
Database for basic nutritionals, but do you have the tools to use it
effectively?
QIC’s
solution uses the ESHA/Genesis Data as a starting point and then allows you to
add to it in a Nutritional
Properties Database. Basic calculation rules come with the system,
but you can define your own rules to calculate any property you define. You can account for water loss,
reconstitution, or moisture pickup at any level of the formula. When new label requirements for trans-fats
were released, many companies had no idea whether their products had them or
not – with the ProductVision™ label database, simply adding a new property and
including it in the identified ingredients allows rapid calculation of
trans-fats.
Once
ingredients are identified with nutritional properties, calculation of
nutritional qualities of formulae is automatic.
Once we know the nutritional qualities of the formulae, printing of the
nutritional label in appropriate languages and formats for multiple jurisdictions
is just processing time! The Nutritional Labels and Ingredient
Statements
module allows the formatting and printing of these items easily and
quickly.
In
addition to essential nutritional qualities, this module can be used to
validate claims that are made for marketing or regulatory purposes. We can test for appropriate properties to
validate a kosher claim (valid certificate, etc.), or fat-free claim, or any new
claim that may be important in the future.
If,
for example, it was discovered that certain people could not handle products
that contained both calcium and sodium in specific concentrations, users of
ProductVision™ can quickly determine which of their various products can make
the claim and which can’t. And even more
importantly, what changes can be done to existing products to make them capable
of the claim.
